There is a specific skill set in being able to consistently outlast large fields in tournament poker. The ability to be patient, pick the correct spots and take maximum advantage of your opponent's mistakes are paramount in order to wade through the masses. The four-figure field in the Parx 500 certainly qualifies as massive and two players making their way through Day 1C are more than qualified as experts as wading deep in these types of fields.

Although he is primarily a cash game player, Carlos Alvarado and his $390,000 in tournament earnings certainly make him no stranger to these fields. Alvarado's two largest tournament scores have come in Borgata Poker Open series "Million" events that each had over 2,400 players in them. Alvarado finished 1st in April 2014 and then 3rd in April 2015, respectively. Alvarado is currently playing a stack, as he says, "where he lives" in the 200,000 range and will look to once again outwit, outplay and outlast another big field.
Norm Michalek found himself deep in the two biggest events at the 2016 World Series of Poker. Michalek finished 93rd in the 21,000 player "Colossus" and then followed up that performance almost a week later by finishing 16th out of 7,190 in the "Millionaire Maker." Michalek made a big impression on the World Series this summer and will look to advance to his first Big Stax final table in the Parx 500.
